With multiple benefits for body and mind, this common garden herb is a certified powerhouse! Compounds in rosemary (Rosmarinus officianalis) have been shown to enhance memory and concentration. It slows the rate of neurological aging (via carsonic acid), and improves digestion. Crude Ethanolic Acid was shown to slow the development of leukemia and carcinomic cells in human breast tissue.

Rosemary is used in European spiritual practices as incense to cleanse spaces of negativity or sickness. It is said that planting rosemary by your door ( or even hanging a bundle of it) will protect the home, or even under your pillow for sweet dreams.

A study conducted in 2022 (see the tables below) showed Rosemary Oil was as effective as Minoxidil (Rogaine) for stimulating hair growth. Rosemary tea has also been used in antiquity to increase hair density.

Associated with the sun and the element of fire, Rosemary is considered a masculine aligned herb. It is associated with goddesses of love, and Strength in Tarot, as well as the rune Sowilo.

In floriography, the language of flowers, Rosemary is said to convey rememberance, with the message “I will remember you always.” For this reason, it was frequently used as an offering to departed loved ones at burial in the 17-1800’s

Be mindful if you use ACEinhibitors, Diuretics, Lithium, or anticoagulants— as Rosemary essential oil can interact with these medications.
